OUR TAMALE
My name is MacCarthy and
I have been inspired by Brandon and Lisa Ling. so I decided to start
Our Tamale. I thought it would be
really cool to create an exhaustive catalogue of Tamale city inhabitants and communicate the beauty,
stories and potentials in the capital city of the three northern regions in
Ghana, so I set out to photograph Tamalians and plot their photos on a map with
my smartphone. Am passionate about
storytelling using digital elements and all kinds visuals, I felt cold feet and
inspired as I followed the concept of Brandons and Lisa Ling.
I am here to show you the beautiful, funny, and thoughtful side of Tamale, Ghana through a Humans of New York lens of my city
Too often in the West, Africa is always stuck in a narrative of tragedy. Ghana is seen as a place of underdevelopment and corruption, ignoring all of the brilliant, funny, creative people that actually live here. Through Our Tamale, the people of Tamale aim to break their victim roles seen by the West. Instead, they'll tell their stories through their own voices and through my pictures. This project is inspired by Brandon Stanton's HONY, but even though Tamale is not as famous as NYC, it is no less great and beautiful
